MoveOn Statement on John Thune’s Latest Refusal to Rein in ICE

WASHINGTON –

In response to Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s insult to MoveOn members and refusal to rein in ICE, MoveOn Civic Action spokesperson Joel Payne released the following statement:

“Our members will not support another dime going to ICE until there is real accountability for their terrorizing of our communities. John Thune and every Senate Republican should be clear on what exactly they refuse to support—keeping ICE out of schools and churches, requiring warrants, stopping ICE’s racial profiling, or mandating ICE officers unmask, have ID, and use body cameras.

And if John Thune thinks standing up for people being murdered in the streets by the government is a ‘special interest,’ he needs to reevaluate what he is even doing in Congress and who he works for.”
